May 2011 Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, Anyone interested please contact Jim Rice at No 77. After a survey was carried out in December 2010 the scheme was publically launched at a meeting in St Kevin's School in May 2011.
Apr 2011 Our 38th AGM was held in St Kevin's NS Wednesday 13th April in which another successful year was outlined. Main features was the improvement in subs from memberships, the completion of the new entrance wall, new initiatives such as the hire of a shredder for use of residents, launch of the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, removal of Graffiti and repainting of all walls in the estate.
The Association also purchased salt in December to clear the snow and this was later supplemented by the Town Council. Committee members with the help of a few dedicated non members gritted the entrance hill late at night in freezing conditions and it was commented on by the Town Council that Rathdown Park remained opened throughout the period while other estates were blocked off for periods during the event
:Jan 2011 Tree pruning is a regular feature of the aging trees in the estate. After hearing from many residents during 2010 about trees that were beginning to overhang or look shaggy, and consulting with a professional tree surgeon a list of trees requiring attention was drawn up and actioned in January. While it must be appreciated that such a list is forever changing, quotes were secured and agreed in November 2010 and we were not in a position to amend or change the action plan after that date.
While some redidents felt strongly about certain trees, the committee must endevour to consider everyone's opinions and these opinions are fed through our committee. No doubt that having performed this particular plan that we will keep the situation under review.
Dec 2010 Snow: After last winter's experience in exiting the estate during the snow, the committee had recently discussed the placement of a salt box in the estate. Fortunately or unfortunately, the November snow came as we were finalising our plans. We have acquired a supply of salt commercially which will last a few days and used it on the Saturday and Sunday nights to facilitate early morning drivers. So far- we are very pleased with the next day results (to the annoyance of local children)
Nov 2010 we finally got around to replacing the entrance wall at the top of the estate. The old wall was the original wall but was badly damaged as a result of road vibration and many "hits" from passing vehicles . Hopefully we will get another 30 years from the new wall. A row of shrubs on the estate side of the wall was also planted during November.
